1964 GMC 1000 230 inline 6, When You Have More Time Then Money.

Ok so what we have here is not a rebuild of a 230 inline but a clean up of one. You will probably notice during these builds that not much money is flowing into them but that doesn't mean there cant be massive progress made!

Don't forget to check the past projects on the truck under Finishing Of 4 Inch Body Drop. Also check out my 1960 K1000 4x4 Project.

This is a strong running motor and with just over a 100,000 i found no reason to rebuild it till its laying on the road behind me but it did have a few huge leaks so i went down to NAPA and grabbed a gasket set for $50 and some paint for another 30 bucks.

 What a mess!
The best and safest way to remove this nasty crap is a shop vac.

Remember when cleaning anything think layers. To get the job done i started off with soaking it in degreaser and rubbing the grease off with shop rags all this was done inside, in the truck and with no water pressure.

well there's your PROBLEM!

A good 10 to 12 hours later after you have transferred all of the oil and grease to your face and body from the motor it should look like this...

From the rags i moved to a little air grinder with a cleaning pad.

A little tip on the inline 6's you have to unbolt the motor from the mounts and jack it up a good 4 inch to remove the oil pan.

If you want to see the latest project on the truck you can check it out at 230 Inline 6 In Red. Also if you want updates on the truck don't forget to subscribe by email at the top!
